The Romanian Classification of Occupations officially recognizes GameDev roles
After years of effort and dedication, we are thrilled to announce that game development occupations are now officially recognized in the Romanian Classification of Occupations (COR)!
This major win would not have been possible without the relentless lobbying from the Romanian Game Developers Association and its Executive Director, Andreea Medvedovici-Per.
This is an important announcement that directly impacts us and finally brings more clarity to our professions. We can prove through official statistics that we exist as professionals and that our industry not only exists but is also growing.
So, in clearer terms, what does this mean for the industry? We compiled some advantages gathered from Laura Aldica, our People Manager, Vlad Alexandru, our Studio Head, and Andreea Medvedovici-Per, Executive Director at RGDA:
Official recognition – what we do no longer needs to be explained through comparisons with other fields or roles. Until now, the state didn’t really formally acknowledge our industry as different from the IT/Software one, and we’ve had to fit our jobs into existing occupational codes – such as Graphic Designer, Computer Graphic Designer, Programmer Assistant and others.
Accessing fiscal support schemes - The absence of these classifications made it a lot more difficult to discuss with state institutions or to access state or European funds.
More clarity - job titles and requirements are now better defined, which helps both in recruitment and professional development. An official statement that these jobs DO EXIST and are important.
The ability to shape the future of our industry – in the long run, this step could pave the way for educational programs specifically tailored to our professions. Bachelor’s and master’s programs can now be officially accredited for these professions, as they are finally recognized in the COR.
